„Consortium musicum”

...in the hands of the Consortium Musicum the works blossoms - evidence of the fine musicianship of the group. They have obviously thought carefully about formal shape, phrasing, and balance. Bokun´s sound is warm, flexible, and above all, expressive. He has wonderful tonal control at all dynamic levels, and his intonation is impeccable. He executes the short but difficult tongued passages in the second movement with great precision, impressively matching the violist´s spiccato. The viola playing by Bartosz Bokun is fabulous.

In sum, this is a terrific CD... The important thing is that Jan Jakub Bokun is not just a fine clarinetist. He is a musician of the highest quality, and the same can be said for the other performers on this disc. Bokun´s versatility is superbly demonstrated on this recording. It is certainly a CD that I will listen to over and over again.

From The Shadow to The Light - Koch Classics LC 5680

...The performances of the famous Bernstein Sonata and the Arnold Sonatina are excellent. Ensemble is solid and the phrasing sparkles with irony and wit. In the second movement of the Bernstein, Bokun adds a few glissandi of his own and skillfully executes both the jazzy rhythms and the controlled slow sections in the altissimo register. Likewise, the Arnold is played with energy and humor, the last movement dashed off in a flash. All in all this is an excellent recording, with fine quality sound and execution. The world premieres are especially striking and should be valued additions to the repertoire.

Rebecca Rischin, The Clarinet

...On ne se plaindra pas. D'autant que le jeu du clarinettiste, plein d'esprit et de vivacité, colle bien a ce repertoire qui met en valeur ses qualites de lirysme et son sens des couleurs...

Frequence Selmer

The Polish clarinetist's "debut in this recording of 20th music" has been received extremely well in the press (The Clarinet, Ruch Muzyczny and E.pl) and will certainly make an impact on the clarinet repertoire...The Polish reviews praise Bokun not only for his fabulous performance on the clarinet, but music critic Maciej Golab is impressed with the "artistic conception of the recording that was so thoughtfully conceived." However, he believes "its greatest asset is the artist's interpretation... from his masterly technique, to building of musical form and to the numerous coloristic sound effects." All of which leads the listener to easily understand the sentence, "music is the language of sound." Jakub Puchalski evaluates this disc on the web-site E.pl as a CD that we should not miss, primarily since the repertoire selected by the young artist "testifies to his ambitions and musical erudition." He continues to say that the selected works offer "precious" gifts on the one hand, which happen to be outstanding pieces and they are played excellently and brilliantly." He concludes with "Seldom does one find a recording devoted primarily to such rarely heard works (some of them have their premiere performance here) and which offers so many deeply-felt metaphysical feelings, which increase with each listening."

Duo Guitarinet - Dux 163

...Jan Jakub Bokun's clarinetistry is colorful, agile, wonderfully articulated and smooth. Both performers prove to be first-rate musicians. The sound quality and balance are excellent, the interpretations are imaginative and inspiring, and the sound engineering is flawless. It's a keeper.

Michelle Gingras, The Clarinet

Complimenti!

Guitart

A leading Polish clarinettist and a leading Polish guitarist collaborate to make this record one of high musical value. The fluent and expressive clarinet playing of Jan Jakub Bokun together with the seasoned expertise of Krzysztof Pe³ech combine perfectly. Piazzolla's extraordinarily popular work has never sounded so mellifluous. The duo's control of rubato and tone colour in Cafe 1930 is brilliant. and Bokun's phrasing, silky and mysterious at the same time, makes Nightclub 1960 ravishing.... Bokun follows with two unaccompanied pieces by the same composer, but unaccompanied is a relative term: a clarinettist as good as Bokun scarcely needs an accompanist, so subtly varied is his art. He has a very high reputation in Poland, and you can see why.Poland's fascination with the rhythms of South America has existed for decades; when they are presented with the highest skill and refinement by two excellent musicians, as they are here, the result is irresistible. Highly recommended.

Hommage a Carlos Guastavino - Dux 313

...Bokun and Kocyan's approach may inspire you with new ideas. Bokun plays expressively with idiomatic tone colors. Well done.

Gregory Barret, The Clarinet

Il Convegno - Jan Jakub Bokun and Friends - Dux 416

...To be noted most particularly is Bokun's incredible musical sensitivity and improvisational skills. I give this recording my top four-reed rating, boxed in velvet to match Bokun's tone and stellar taste in repertoire and collaborating personnel.

Soloist with the Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra

...Weber's Concerto in F-minor was played brilliante by Jan Jakub Bokun - a student of The Wroc³aw Adademy of Music, a frequent solo performer, a prizewinner in numerous contests and greatly promising musician with enchanting tone, elegant phrasing and unquestionable soloistic predilections. Among a multitude of recent Wroc³aw Philharmonic debuts this seems to be the most interesting one...

Rafa³ Augustyn, Ruch Muzyczny

Conductor

"Rare and exhilirating" best describes "Polish Strings: 20th Century Orchestral Classics" conceived and directed by Jan Jakub Bokun. Bokun led the Polish Strings in a professional manner and they followed his beat precisely, resulting in a solid ensemble tone His gestures reminded [one] a little of the LA Philharmonic's Esa-Pekka Salonen. The audience....enjoyed what they heard as was evidenced by the long and enthusiastic applause...ending in a standing ovation.

Duo Guitarinet in Paris

...Both players have a deep sense of colours in their instrumental playing and know very well how to maintain a dialogue, each respecting and highlighting the other in the single purpose of making good music. This surely is how all music should be played.

Danielle Ribouillault, Classical Guitar

Duo Guitarinet at the Festival du Haut Bugey
