Duo Guitarinet
Duo Guitarinet, the winner of the prestigious 2007 Wrocław Music Prize awarded for the album Impresiones Argentinas, was formed by Jan Jakub Bokun (clarinet) and Krzysztof Pełech (guitar) in 1996. Musicians explore a wide variety of music by Latin American composers. In addition to the music of the world´s most famous tango composer- Astor Piazzolla, the duo also performs works of Egberto Gismonti, Benedetto Lacerda, Sergio Assad, Celso Machado and Radames Gnattali.
Along with the collection of chamber music, Duo Guitarinet has in their repertoire the Double Concerto for guitar, bandoneon (arr. for clarinet) and string orchestra by Astor Piazzolla. This work, written in 1985 shortly before the master´s death, is often considered to be the most satisfying of Piazzolla´s concertos.
New works have been written especially for the duo by Steven Lacoste, Mario Broeders, Jorge Morel, Pavel Smutny, Marek Pasieczny and some other leading Polish composers of the younger generation.
Their first CD, Duo Guitarinet, was released in Poland by the Dux label. The album has been enthusiastically received in the international press and nominated for the 2000 Polish Music Industry Award.
The second CD entitled Duo Guitarinet-10th Anniversary Album has been released in September 2006 on JBRecords, followed by Impresiones Argentinas, recorded with Camerata Moravia in the Czech Republic.
Since their successful debut in 1996 at the Teatr Polski in Wrocław, Poland, the duo has received invitations to perform at numerous international festivals in Poland, Argentina, Chile, Germany, France, Holland, Spain, Italy, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Duo Guitarinet - 10th Anniversary Album - JBRecords 003-2
Throughout this rewarding disc you are aware of the musicianship of the two players. In terms of tone and expressional variety, with impeccable rhytm and balance, I can´t imagine it done better. I have known and admired Pełech´s work for some 20 years; Bokun was the revelation. I can´t remember the last time the clarinet made such an impression. I would say that he has the ability to become a soloist of the highest quality, but he can be persuaded to stay with the talented Krzysztof Pełęch, not only will the guitar world be enriched but a genuine contribution will be made to music as a whole.

...This release is a showcase of the formidable talents of Krzysztof Pelech and Jan Jakub Bokun, and is evidence of Bokun's burgeoning conducting career. The Camerata Moravia is first-rate throughout. The recorded sound is close up and well balanced, and does not suffer from the all-to-common excessive post-production reverberation in the strings. The disc has plenty of rhythmic punch...

Duo Guitarinet - Dux 163
...Jan Jakub Bokun and Krzysztof Pełech are performing their music as though they were native to the picturesque streets of Buenos Aires vibrating with tango. Overwhelming is the subtle, yet richly dynamic, ‘sparkling´ articulation of Pełech´s guitar and the extraordinarily warm clarinet part played by Bokun. The musicians are playing in a seamless union, breathing like one body...

...The latest Pełech and Bokun CD is a sensational feat of instrumental perfection. If you don´t listen to it you´ll miss a lot, but if you give a go, it will become your prized possession. In my opinion it is one of the most fascinating CDs released in our country in the last years.

...Rubatos - perfect, phrasing - subtle and clear. A superb quality of Pełech and Bokun´s playing is their ability to create the mood. Technically difficult parts do not impress with a mere virtuosity, but rather meet the ideal of natural expression. The resulting feeling of calm has nothing to do with dullness, though. The musicians stimulate the listeners´ attention with the beauty of delicate phrasing based on unforced Latino, syncopated rhythms. In my judgment the new Pełech and Bokun CD will be a hit of the musical market not only because of its unusual combination of instruments, but also due to its supreme performance quality and most interesting musical contents...

...The Duo Guitarinet´s CD may undoubtedly be hailed as one of the best ones in the year 2000. Instrumentally the performance is flawless. Perfectly articulated phrasing and the consistent rubato are of rare beauty. Personally I´ve been charmed by the dark tone colour of the clarinet as set off against the lighter, subtle guitar accompaniment...

...One of the best CDs of the year.
Artur Bielecki, Gazeta Wyborcza
...A leading Polish clarinetist and a leading Polish guitarist collaborate to make this record of high musical value. The fluent and expressive clarinet playing of Jan Jakub Bokun together with the seasoned expertise of Krzysztof Pełech combine perfectly. Piazzolla´s extraordinarily popular work has never sounded so melifluous. The duo´s control of rubato and tone colour in Café 1930 is brilliant, and Bokun´s phrasing, silky and mysterious at the same time, makes Nightclub 1960 ravishing...
Colin Cooper, Classical Guitar Magazine
...Both performers prove to be first-rate musicians... The sound quality and balance are excellent, the interpretations are imaginative and inspiring, and the sound engineering is flawless...It´s a keeper.
Michele Gingras, The Clarinet
Complimenti !
